definition of a dying breed:
irrelevance, if not dead yet, death is on its way...
well, that's a working definition for now...
throughout history, throughout scripture, we are reminded that the call of Christ is a call to die to the world. to kill off our worldy desires, thoughts, schemes, plans... not in exchange to live in a world of self-deprecating, self-inflicted depravation of all things pleasurable... but to hold on to the only thing of eternal substance, the only thing of real joy. we subscribe to hope that tells us that last is really first. that we are a part of kingdom that is bigger than political systems, and encompasses all earthly kingdoms. we point not to ourselves, but to those moments in time where God is at work in this world and heaven and earth seemingly collide, where God makes himself known and seen and we do our best to get out of his way. this is the life of a follower of Christ, the savior of the world.
to live is Christ... to die is gain. - paul, a part of a dying breed.
this call, this life is alien... foreign...
to the world we are less like prophets, more like vcr repairmen... irrelevant, if not dead yet, death is on its way. in the eyes of the world we are a dying breed.
reality... as alien as it may seem to the world... the gospel is the only living thing in this dying world.
the answer isn't to bring the gospel into the 21st century
its the only relevant substance out there... we just have to get out of the way of it...
let us lift up these eternal beings around us... in our networks, schools, and workplaces... above the mess of this world so they can see the hope of a savior who died so that we my live...
join the rebirth of a dying breed.
